Ubisoft has revealed that it is working on a brand new open world game set in the Star Wars universe. The story-based experience was developed by the French publisher’s Massive studio.
The Swedish developer was previously responsible for creating The Division and its sequel. However, he is also working on another high-profile film adaptation based on James Cameron Avatar series.
There is little information on the new Star Wars game other than a short teaser which can be seen below.
This also marks the first time that a major Star Wars game has been developed by a non-EA studio since the publisher acquired the exclusive rights to the sci-fi franchise in 2013. Despite losing its exclusive grip on Star Wars games , EA will continue to work on titles based on the movie series.
“The vast tradition of Star Wars is an incredible source of inspiration for our teams,” said Yves Guillemot, CEO of Ubisoft, on the corporate blog. “This is the beginning of a long-term partnership with Disney and Lucasfilm Games and we are delighted to work side by side to build on Lucasfilm’s incredible legacy to create a game we know Star Wars fans will love.”
The announcement comes just days after Disney confirmed it was reviving the famous name Lucasfilm Games. The company also revealed yesterday that it was teaming up with Fallout developer and The Elder Scrolls Bethesda to create an Indiana Jones game.
