The last time we heard about Google’s delayed Android 14 release, it was said to finally release on the day of the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro announcement, October 4th. It was just a rumor at the time. Today it is almost confirmed.
Only in a way, because this isn’t exactly an official announcement and we don’t expect one from Google until the day itself. What we have is Canadian operator Telus listing when it will begin rolling out software updates for the devices it sells. And on all Pixel devices starting with the Pixel 4a, “Android U” was listed as releasing on October 4th.

Android U is short for Android Upside Down Cake, which is the internal codename of Android 14. And let’s say all the aforementioned Pixel lists they were said to get this update on October 4th, because they don’t say that anymore.
It’s likely that someone at Google discovered this being reported in various online spaces and asked Telus to remove the information, which the operator promptly did. Of course, this is just our speculation on the matter, we can’t be entirely sure what happened, so there’s still a chance, however slim, that the information itself was wrong.
