Google announced an AR-based Live View search for Maps in September, and the company is now ready to move forward with the update. The new feature, however, will be made available in select cities starting with Los Angeles, London, New York, Paris, San Francisco and Tokyo.

The feature works just like the current Live View which helps you navigate using the phone’s camera in real time. Live View mode will overlay arrows over your surroundings and point to landmarks or other places you’re looking for.

Using billions of Street View, AI and AR images, the new Live View search option gives you a better understanding of your surroundings. Show shops, restaurants, banks, ATMs, etc., even if they are out of sight and around the corner, for example. All you have to do is enable your phone’s camera in Maps and point in the direction you need.

The labels that appear on these establishments now contain useful information such as peak times, price range, rating and, of course, whether or not it’s open.

A new EV charging station option is also on the way, allowing you to even search for compatible stations and fast charging points above 50kW.
