Today Google released the latest monthly update for the Pixel devices it still supports (i.e. from Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5 onwards). And this is still Android 13, so it looks like a recent rumor that the official stable release of Android 14 is delayed until next month might be true after all.

We initially thought that the final version of Android 14 would come out in August based on the timeline that Google continued to show for months while beta testing the next version of the operating system. But then in August the company awkwardly added another beta to the release cycle, and then there were a couple more bug fix releases, and here we are, already in mid-September, without the release going live.

So maybe the company actually decided to hold it until early October, which is also when it will officially announce the new devices.

Anyway, today’s update arrives as build TQ3A.230901.001 on most devices, although some regional and carrier variants may have a suffix consisting of a letter plus a number added. This update isn’t one of those “feature releases” that come every three months with new features, it’s just one that fixes bugs and security issues.
