It’s now rumored that Google’s next Pixel Fold smartphone will skip the Tensor G3 chipset and go straight to the Tensor G4. The Tensor G4 is expected to power the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro when they launch this October, so if the Fold also features it, it may only see the light of day alongside the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro.
The original Pixel Fold was unveiled last year at Google I/O, the conference that takes place in May. With this in mind we expected to see his successor this May, but apparently not, if these rumors come true of course.
From a performance perspective, Google’s Tensor chipsets have never been record breaking. So the new Fold waiting a few months to get a better chip doesn’t seem like a bad idea. But wait, there’s more: Google is apparently testing the Pixel Fold 2 with 16GB of RAM, which is more than any Pixel has ever had. It also has UFS 4.0 storage, which is a step up from the UFS 3.1 storage in the OG.
We’ve already seen leaks regarding the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro, but nothing about the Pixel Fold so far, and that in itself could be an indirect confirmation of today’s rumors.
