Heya folks 👋

Been doing some digging on backup apps and software like TerraBox, Telegram, OneDrive, and others, but honestly I wanted to hear real human opinions instead of search results.

Thinking of using it for my personal files since my phone's about to go up in flames and my laptop decided to peace out on me.

So here’s the question:
What backup solution do you use and recommend?

I’m curious about the real pros and cons. Reliability, storage limits, ease of restoring files, cross-device syncing, and all that good stuff.

Drop your go-to tools and experiences! 😊

TerraBox is good. The major drawback is that files can't be shared publicly and only with other TerraBox users.

OneDrive has become very unreliable with files being deleted without warning.

I personally won't use Telegram.

A simple solution is to sign up for a free Gmail account and then use the 15GB gdrive. I use MixPlorer and map gdrive as WebDAV. I can then copy/paste whatever files between my device and the gdrive.
If you set the gdrive to Public, it can be accessed anywhere via a web browser.
Only downside for me is the 15GB limit as I have nearly 2TB of Android related files. Still, for most people it's a good solution.

I am presently copying my Pixel Dungeon archive to a gdrive account using MixPlorer.

Unpopular opinion but.. is all this worth it? Via OTG you can connect any pen drives (very cheap nowadays) to your phone and quickly move everything inside. You don't need a cloud backup solution if you can bring the pen drive with you :p There are also micro sd card readers worth considering. I ordered a security camera through amazon and the seller gifted me a 128GB micro sd, and I think nowadays they're worth 15 bucks at most.

Reminds me of how in 1986 I spent $3,600 on a SCSI drive to store all of my 14 inch, 8 inch, 5.25 inch floppies, and all my tapes.
It replaced my 256 full height floppy drive array.
That SCSI drive was a massive 85 mega bytes!
How much storage would $3,600 buy today?

I don't think you can even get a storage device that's under eight gigabytes anymore

I found one at a local market but it was more expensive than a 16gb one LOL

Once again dropping veteran-level wisdom, I see 😄
Also noted: TerraBox with caveats, OneDrive on thin ice, Telegram firmly off the table 😅
That Gmail + GDrive + WebDAV setup is really clever though, especially the public access part. I can see why you stick with it despite the storage limit.

Not unpopular at all, actually, just refreshingly practical 😄
OTG and micro SD are hard to beat for speed and convenience.

My curiosity about cloud backups mostly comes from wanting redundancy and accessibility across devices, but I can’t argue with cheap, fast, and physical storage.
