According to a report by IDC, smartphone shipments in the second quarter of 2022 in India grew by about 3% year-on-year, but fell by 5% compared to the first quarter of 2022. The entire first half of 2022 recorded a 1% drop in overall smartphone sales.
IDC outlines the lingering effects of supply constraints in 2021 as part of the reason along with rising inflation leading to shrinking demand. The average selling price, for example, has been growing steadily since the fourth quarter of 2020 and stood at $ 213 in the second quarter of this year. This is a 15% year-over-year increase.
Regarding the performance of smartphone suppliers, Xiaomi still leads the pack with a market share of 20.4% even though its shipments have fallen by 28.2% compared to the same period last year. This cost Xiaomi 8.8 percentage points of its market share.
Realme and vivo have made big gains and now occupy the second and third positions with shares of 17.5% and 16.9% respectively. Samsung’s shipments remained unchanged, which drove the company down to fourth place in terms of overall volume.
