use Windows software on Android

Surely you have ever wondered if you could use Windows programs on your Android mobile or tablet as if it were a mini PC. The idea of playing classic titles, opening old applications or managing desktop tools from the couch sounds very tempting. The good news is that, although Android and Windows are different worlds, there are several ways to bring them together… with their tricks, drawbacks and limitations.

In the next lines you will see all real options to run Windows software on Android: from advanced solutions like Winlator, through “bareback” Wine, Limbo-type virtual machines, to remote access with AnyViewer or Remote Desktop. We will also see what to expect from each method, what type of apps work best and what problems you will encounter along the way, so that you don’t waste time trying things that have no future.

Is it possible to use Windows programs on Android?

The first thing to be clear about is that Android cannot directly run .exe files or Windows programs. Google’s system uses a Linux kernel and an architecture designed for mobile apps, usually on ARM processors, while most Windows software is compiled for x86 (Intel, AMD) and designed for desktop.

Hi dear Sbenny, the idea is very nice but I don't feel confident in doing it. I'm afraid it might damage my new phone! I have another Android 14 phone that I don't use anymore but it's still warranty

I spent most of the weekend updating my Win10 on Android.
I can now run most of the RE tools for modding Android apps.
I am using a custom version of Winlator, bionic-ludashi.apk
It wasn't easy as Winlator doesn't play well with Python, JAVA, .NET and browsers.
I have Python 3.15 installed, used OpenJRE 8 and 21, manually installed .NET, and spent much research on browsers.
No Chrome or Firefox based browsers worked. Not even good old Opera. Every site I found says Winlator just can't do browsers.
I found Otter, a modern remake of Opera, and it works great!

Android native, Android VM's, Termux, and Win10 are all configured to share the host Download folder as a virtual drive on one device.
This makes it super easy to switch between OS specific tools and share the work.

This custom version benchmarks 15% faster than the CMOD version and has many new features. It also benchmarks 54% faster than the Termux Win10 proot version. It doesn't have all the features of the Termux version which uses an actual Win10 ISO, however, through the use of WINE and BOX64, it is faster and can share folders.
This release also supports internet direct without the prior nightmare setup.

On a Hotwav tablet with 32/64bit support, 8 2.7GHz CPU's, and 2TB storage, this release works at 97% the speed one would get on an AMD Ryzen 7 PC.
