Manu Kumar Jain has left Xiaomi, the now former executive revealed on Twitter. He served the tech company for 9 years and played a pivotal role in Xiaomi’s rise in India as the leader of the company’s operations in the Asian country.

In a lengthy letter, Jain revealed that he would be taking time off before tackling his new professional challenge, ideally in a new industry.

Manu Kumar Jain has stepped down from his position as global vice president of Xiaomi, although his name has recently been linked to the violation of Indian foreign exchange laws. India’s Enforcement Directorate is looking into the relationship between the Chinese company and its Indian division and royalty payments are flowing both ways, and the now former executive has been operating out of Dubai for the past few years.

During Jain’s time at Xiaomi India, the company became the leading smartphone brand “without spending money on advertising,” the executive added. The branch’s expansion generated more than 50,000 jobs and “100% of smartphones and Smart TVs” were manufactured in India, another campaign for which Jain took credit.
