Once I get some free time I was gonna see about a simple mod for pokeballs and items. Gold is definitely all server.

You most likely can't mod the items. But you can mod location and therefore get tons of items from pokestop.

I believe that is what some people were reporting back.
But there are repeatable instances where I was at one location that is not my current location. I was able to click on the nearby pokestops + capture pokemon nearby and it worked as if I was physically there. Then few minutes later, the GPS would update to my current location.
So location would definitely be something that is hackable.
