Tried moving game to internal storage to see if its a data injection issue with absolute path, but that made no change.

Okay. I've broken down the code and think I found the issue, although there may be several.

I've seen this several times now with Frida mods, corrupted DEX files with duplicate entries, and the more DEX's in the original APK the worse Frida seems to corrupt them.

Another that I've pointed out before is that Frida is hiding scripts as .so libraries. This may not matter but it could be an issue.

Looking at the injected code, I see the frida-gadget is loaded in the midst of the Unity Player shutting down, not after. This can cause timing issues that newer OS's can cope with but older ones may not.

Looking at the frida-gadget library is perhaps the biggest clue.
Frida is using the latest NDK library, r25b, which is fully compatible with Android 15 up (r25c in development for Android 16)
Having compiled a few source codes in Android Studio, I am aware that the latest NDK's are breaking downward compatibility as reported on GitHub.

Although this is about RUST, it covers r25b breaking code for Android 13 down.

That may help for some situations, but the biggest fix would be Frida downgrading to r23, or give the user the option. The corruption of DEX files is a whole other issue.

The DEX corruption could be gotten around using APKtool-M or MT or any other decompiler/editor and manually adding the Frida-Gadget hook code to the Unity smali and compile is properly.
I will test this theory...

I obtained a clean copy.
I copied the 3 frida libraries out of your mod into the clean copy.
I then copied the frida hook from the Unity smali and pasted it into the clean copy.
I noted your copy included an additional DEX, assets.dex
That dex contains advertisment code.
I omitted it from the clean copy.
I then compile the clean copy with additions.

Testing gives a clean compiled apk.
The game was installed on Android 13
It ran, without the mod.
I then installed it on Android 15.
It ran with the mod.

This rules out dex corruption, frida script, the hook.
It leaves the NDK r25b library not loading the mod data.

There's no doubt Frida is not compiling properly, is injecting ad's code, and its use of r25b is preventing proper use on OS's below Android 15.

After a little research I find the compiler corruption and additional assets.dex is not just a problem in Frida, it stems from and old apktools.jar file and has affected many tools relying on it.

By default, apktool.jar decompile dex from assets if available. This is the problem because many apps often add additional dex or encrypted dex in assets which will cause failing to decompile or compile, or even cause problem with the app if assets.dex has been added to the APK file already. Often with the error Exception in thread "main" org.jf.dexlib2.dexbacked.DexBackedDexFile$NotADexFile: Not a valid dex magic value: cf 77 4c c7 9b 21 01 cd or Class xxx has already been interned
I don't get really much sense with this, i think nobody ever worked with dex in assets. Many users will just get confused with this error, only very few knew that --only-main-classes fixes it

If disassembling dex from assets still makes sense, it would be better to add option to decompile dex from assets instead and ignore/skip non-valid dex to continue decompiling. Everybody could trick apktool to cause error by creating non-valid dex file and place it in assets folder
And why not compile dex back to the original location instead creating assets.dex.
There is no information about assets.dex so I don't know what would be possible or not. All I know is Frida using old apktool.jar is breaking dex and dumping smali into assets.dex

I can't tell at what point it was injected because it's all compiled with the same date/time.

It's a minor nuisance compared to the bigger issue of compatibility, but it is dirty.

I wonder if it's possible to find an older frida-gadget.so that would still load the .so scripts and work on both current and older devices

I'll do some digging into that and if I can find one, test the theory.
