Although the overall design of the Pixel 7 series is the same as the 6 series, Google has made a major change: the camera’s “visor” is now covered with metal instead of glass. This should make it more resilient, right? Well, as JerryRigEverything discovered, the answer is actually the opposite.

The Google Pixel 7 Pro endurance test starts with something simple: How fast does the phone start to suffer cosmetic damage? The metal band of the camera assembly lasted only a few minutes before the first visible signs appeared. Now, Zach’s workbench is a minefield of things that can scratch a phone, but even then this was faster than expected.

The worst is yet to come, though. Google has not only made the camera metal, but has extended it to the side. And that compromised the phone’s stiffness: while the Pixel 6 Pro survived the folding test, the 7 Pro fared worse when it applied pressure from the back.

Watch the video to see how the Gorilla Glass Victus performs: it protects the 6.7 “display on the front and rear panels.
