The Xiaomi 12T series will launch on October 4, and before the big reveal, CEO Lei Jun took to Twitter to confirm one of the key updates over the 12S series: a 200MP main camera sensor. Based on the most recent leaks, we expect only the Xiaomi 12T Pro to get the huge sensor while the regular Xiaomi 12T will settle for a 108MP main shooter.

Xiaomi 12T Pro is rumored to use Samsung’s HP1 sensor: a 1 / 1.22-inch imager with f / 1.69 aperture, phase detection autofocus (PDAF), and optical image stabilization (OIS). The HP1 sensor offers binning of 16-1 pixels in various resolutions ranging from 12.5MP stills with a pixel pitch of 2.56μm to 50MP stills (1.28μm pixels) or natively at 200 MP (0.64 μm pixels) depending on your needs.

The same 200MP sensor is used in the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra which we reviewed not long ago and which we found to offer very good detail and color retention in both day and night shots. The rest of the specifications for the Xiaomi 12T series include 6.67-inch AMOLED displays with 1,220 x 2,712 pixels resolution, 5,000 mAh batteries with 120W fast charging, Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset for 12T Pro and MediaTek Dimensity 8100 for Xiaomi 12T.
