In its latest blog post, YouTube updates us on how its fight against spam, bots, and abusive language is progressing, and introduces new and updated tools to tackle issues more successfully. In its statement, YouTube says these are the top concerns of today’s content creators and has made them a priority.

YouTube updates its spam, bot, and offensive comment detection tools

One of the major changes is improved spam detection in the comments section. The developer team worked hard to improve automatic spam detection and was able to delete 1.1 billion spam comments in the first half of this year. But spammers adapt and that’s why YouTube uses machine learning models that adapt and deal with them more efficiently. The same goes for automatic detection in the live chat section during live streams.

Regarding abusive comments from real human users, YouTube is introducing a takedown and timeout notice. The system will warn users when their comments go against community guidelines and remove their comments and if the same user continues to leave abusive comments, they will get a 24-hour ban. Internal testing shows that these systems in place reduce repeat offenders.
