Do you want to take your portable gaming to the next level? Valve recently announced a portable system called the Steam Deck which will be released in December.
Previously, rumors hinted at a portable Steam device called SteamPal. In retrospect, that was probably the working title of this project.
What do you get in this handheld package? There are three different versions of Steam Deck to choose from, but all of them feature powerful processing. On the page where you can pre-order the Steam Deck, Valve describes programming as a “Zen 2 + RDNA 2 powerhouse” that lets you play AAA games on the go without sacrificing graphics and performance.
The Steam Deck was designed primarily as a handheld and has a portable mode complete with touchscreens, multiple trackpads, and multiple joysticks. The design is obviously inspired by the Nintendo Switch, although some skeptical Steam fans are wondering how comfortable it will be to play for a long time on this device.
Another clear inspiration for Nintendo is the ability to dock the console (dock sold separately) and play the console on a larger screen. So if you want to connect it to a monitor or certain TVs, you can practically use this portable system like a traditional desktop computer, complete with compatibility with USB peripherals.
All three Steam Deck models feature a 7 ″ touchscreen, built-in hi-fi speakers, a solid battery (with a life of 40 watt hours), expandable I / O and Bluetooth compatibility. While it will vary based on the type of games you play and their intensity of performance, you can realistically expect to get 4-8 hours of gameplay.
While all of the above features are standard, what do you get with the different models? The base model costs $ 399 and comes with a 64GB eMMC for storage. The second model costs $ 529 and comes with 256GB of faster NVMe SSD storage. Finally, the more rugged model costs $ 629 and comes with 512GB and the fastest NVMe SSD storage, as well as high-quality anti-glare etched glass.
You can also get some system pre-order bonuses, including a carrying case, exclusive Steam Community Profile bundles, and more. Pre-orders start today and we recommend you move quickly – they are likely to sell out due to fan enthusiasm!
