For many years the left shouted too ease with the return of fascism. And now that we have it in front of it, now that it is coming to us, with the tanks of Vladimir Putin who advance to the east or with the commercial and political-ideological war of his emulo, admirer and ally Donald Trump in the west, we remained speechless. But it is the entire European Union that is stuck, like the deer in front of the lighthouses of the car.

In the aftermath of the declaration of war launched by Trump with his absurd string of duties fired at random against the rest of the world, China immediately responded with hard words and proportionate countermeasures, and brought the back of the White House in a short time. Europe has avoided any retaliation and continued to insist on the dialogue, and the result is that Trump, after graciously granted ninety days of respite to find an agreement, announced € 50 percent duties against Europe.

The fact that in the evening Ursula von der Leyen tweeted to have satisfied that he had a “good phone call” with the President of the United States on this topic, obtaining that the new duties are suspended until July 9, I fear only that the union intends to persevere on this path.

Even more shocking, at least for the European leaders who had deluded themselves to make him think, was then the turnaround of Trump on the war in Ukraine: after threatening very hard penalties in the event that Putin had not committed himself to a serious peace negotiation, and having received in response to an intensification of the criminal Russian bombings, the American president refuses to adopt new sanctions and indeed he says he is definitively ready for the game. In both cases, war in Ukraine and commercial war, those who have perished the line of dialogue with the Trump administration, as our famous bridge, Giorgia Meloni, should now report the results.

But above all it should clarify his intentions. In fact, we Italians, in fact, should be more than anything else what Trump is doing in the United States, or rather: to the United States. That authoritarian twist that a connoisseur like the great chess and dissident Russian Garry Kasparov openly defines as “putinization”. Instead of continuing to ask for hypocrite taken away from the fascism of the last century, we Italians should alarize ourselves for the open adhesion of many politicians, and also of many journalists, at the authoritarian drift in progress in today’s America. A new fascism that not surprisingly sees its main enemy in the European Union, because it is the only alternative to the Trumputinian authoritarian model.
