Filming on the Borderlands film will soon begin in Hungary, according to the head of a production company in the country.
Adam Goodman, who heads production services company MidAtlantic Films, confirmed in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter that the Borderlands film will go into production in Hungary in 2021.
The film, which will be directed by Eli Roth, is one of several projects to be shot in Hungary due to the COVID-19 pandemic that has limited the availability of other locations around the world.
“We opened the space for a Lionsgate movie, Borderlands […]we are doing the third season of Jack Ryan for Paramount TV, and we’re doing a Marvel project, which, for the usual security reasons, I can’t talk about, “Goodman said in the interview.
Some big names are tied to the project, with Cate Blanchett playing the mighty Siren known as Lilith, while writer Craig Mazin is writing the script. He was previously known for creating the acclaimed television series Chernobyl.
Lionsgate and Arad Productions first announced the Borderlands movie in 2015, with Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford confirming last year that the project was still in development.
