Disappointing multiplayer

When it comes to multiplayer, this franchise can’t win. DOOM multiplayer of 2016 was mostly just a DOOM version of the multiplayer of games like Halo. The Deathmatch and King of the Hill style games were fun, but nothing we hadn’t seen before. And the XP system for upgrades was more frustrating than tempting.

In DOOM Eternal, all of this is thrown out the window. Instead, the multiplayer multiplayer mode is about one player controlling the DOOM boy and two others controlling the demons. It’s a nice idea, but it gets stale after a while.

There will be a future mode that will allow players to control demons and “invade” someone else’s campaign mode. While this sounds good, it’s really baffling that they just didn’t take the time to perfect a more traditional deathmatch.

Final verdict

Is DOOM Eternal worth your time? Absolutely. In fact, the only signs against it are the underwhelming multiplayer and seemingly endless options.

At the heart of this, however, is an exciting campaign with action you can’t find anywhere else. And with additional content planned for future release, this is a great game that will only get better over time.
