The Last of Us games have always been cinematic in scope and execution. Now, an HBO TV show will recreate those games for television audiences and the network has launched The Mandalorian protagonist Pedro Pascal as Joel.
Pascal has been making big waves in recent years. It is currently on the front page The Mandalorian and most recently played the evil Max Lord in Wonder Woman 1984. But to many fans, he’s best known for his elegant and glamorous portrayal of Oberyn Martell on HBO game of Thrones.
Even though their characters never crossed paths on that show, it seems The last of us it could be a miniature game of Thrones meeting. This is because Bella Ramsey was cast to play Ellie. Ramsey is best known game of Thrones fans as the ferocious Lyanna Mormont.
when The last of us It was first announced, many fans were understandably skeptical about how loyal HBO would stick to the video game’s source material. But there are reasons to hope. According to a Deadline report, Joel is a “hardened survivor” on a mission to get Ellie out of “an overwhelming quarantine zone”.
The character Joel is described as “tormented by past trauma and failure”. Meanwhile, Ellie is described as a character “representing humanity’s last hope”. Although the descriptions are a bit extensive, all of this seems to be a good description of these characters and their world in The Last of Us video game.
That said, there are already plans to expand the gaming world and offer fans some surprises. For example, showrunner Craig Mazin (best known for creating the hit HBO miniseries Chernobyl) stated in an interview with BBC Must Watch that the show would include a “jaw-dropping” moment that was planned for the original game but would eventually be cut. Now, with the help of game creator Neil Druckmann, they can bring this mysterious moment back to life.
Mazin is also ahead of her goals for the show. Instead of making fans love the game the same way they always have, he hopes “to make you fall in love again in a different way.” This may sound quite ambitious. But with Mazin’s proven track record and full cooperation from the creator of the original game, we have high hopes for this upcoming show.
