You’re in the middle of a game with the new version of Fifa, or you’re playing a fierce challenge with the most classic of adventure games such as Assassin’s Creed, and you notice, incredibly, that your Play5 no longer reads discs.
You strongly desired it, under the last Christmas tree, for your children, but in reality, when you return from the office, it’s you who plays with it, definitely taking a dive into the past, when you spent the afternoons at the bar near your house, in that games room that absorbed most of your time.

The Playstation 5 it was your son’s great desire, but deep down it’s conquering you too. It wasn’t easy to find when it came out on the market it was already unobtainable.
What’s happening? From one moment to the next you realize that something is wrong and that it no longer reads the discs. It’s panic! You don’t know what to do!
No fear, here are some practical tips to understand if it is a solvable and temporary defect, or we are dealing with something more serious.
Ps5: your discs don’t work. Here’s what to do
1. Restart your PlayStation. Sometimes, restarting the console is all you need to do. Turn it off, then turn it back on. If that doesn’t work, try again, only this time unplug it for at least 30 minutes.
2. Cleaning the disc and disc drive could prove to be crucial. Is your PS5 still not reading the disc? Eject the disc and check for scratches or scuffs. If it’s dirty, clean it with a dry microfiber cloth, then try restarting the game.
3. Try other discs, maybe your favorite game is damaged. Before you start thinking your PlayStation has truly irreversible damage, replace the current disc with another one and see if it works better. If so, the problem may be the game itself.
4. Make sure the disc is inserted correctly. If your PS5 won’t read discs, it’s possible that you inserted them upside down. The top side of the disc, the side with the game name on it, should always face the power and eject buttons.
5. Make sure your game really works with your new PS5. Another easy mistake, especially if you buy the games first and ask questions later, is trying to play a game that isn’t supported by your current console. The PS5 is not able to read the games of your old Ps3, but only those of the 4.
6. Restart PS5 from safe mode. Safe Mode is a feature that allows you to run essential programs on your PS5 while shutting down others. It’s a good way to check if the problem is with your console or with your game. To restart your PS5 in safe mode, follow these steps.
- Press the button power on to turn off the console
- Press and hold the button power on until you hear two beeps.
- Connect the controller to the console using the USB cable and press the button PS ® on the controller. Once the console enters safe mode, choose Restart PS5 .
- Enter the game to see if the same error appears.
7. Reset your console to factory settings. If your PlayStation won’t read any discs, you may need to reset it to factory settings. This will delete your game files and reset your console to factory default settings. Before you do that, make sure you back up those files using PlayStation Plus cloud storage or with an external drive.
