Google is rolling out a new feature on Quick Share on Android that allows users to send files to iOS devices using a QR code.

If Quick Share on your Android phone doesn’t yet offer AirDrop compatibility, this new QR code-based method offers a simple alternative. Recipients can scan the code with their iPhone to quickly access and download shared files.

Android users can now share files with iPhone via QR code

The new feature was announced during The Android Show: I/O Edition earlier this week. When an iPhone user scans the QR code with the Camera app, the selected files are securely uploaded to the cloud and delivered via a private download link.

According to Google, the transferred files are protected with end-to-end encryption and remain available for download for up to 24 hours. The company also states that the generated link cannot be shared with others.

During The Android Show: I/O Edition, Google confirmed that QR code-based file sharing from Android to iOS devices will be available to all users by the end of June.
