We’ve seen a lot of collaborations between smartphone and camera makers in the past, so it’s no surprise. According to a fairly reliable whistleblower on Weibo, Digital chat stationthe popular camera brand Canon is looking to partner with a smartphone manufacturer.

As we already have the Oppo/OnePlus-Hasselblad, vivo-Zeiss and Xiaomi-Leica pairs, this leaves Apple, Samsung, Huawei, Asus, Google, Realme, Honor, Sony and Motorola as potential candidates for a Canon partnership. However, Apple, Samsung and Google aren’t the kind of companies that would pursue such a partnership, while Sony has its own camera department, so it’s probably safe to exclude them from the suspect list.

Given that DCG is located in China and the rumor probably comes from there, it could be a company based in China like Realme, Honor or Huawei. Sadly, we have nothing else to work with and can only speculate at this point.
