Realme will debut the first member of the Realme 10 series on November 9th and we managed to get an interview with Madhav Sheth – Realme VP and Head of Realme International covering some key aspects of the upcoming phone.

[Weekend Filler] Interview: Madhav Sheth from Realme talks about Realme 10 and previous number series performances

The interview covers the sales performance of previous Realme number series devices, Realme 10 key hardware features, software support, and some other interesting topics like consumer preferences for phone screen size and battery life.

Do you know how many units have been shipped with the number series?

More than 50 million units globally in total between Pro number and Pro number series.

What are your goals for the Realme 10 series?

I’m more of a product type, so I prefer to focus on the product. Sales numbers are just the result of the right inputs, I’ve always believed.

Yes, but when you start producing you have to have a certain number in mind.

Sure – we have our base numbers, but we also have our aspirations. Series 10 will be hugely important to us next year, but there are many factors to consider. We need to understand that the world is going through a lot right now and the global supply chain is disrupted, so making these predictions is extremely difficult. But even so we are extremely optimistic about the performance of the 10 series.

What were your top priorities when designing Realme 10?

The most important things a consumer looks at are three: the processor, the screen, the memory and the RAM. The camera is actually closely related to the processor, because its capabilities are not only about megapixels and hardware, but also processing. We focused on all of these key aspects with MediaTek G99, 90Hz AMOLED, and dynamic RAM up to 16GB.

Since you’ve tapped the camera – Realme 10’s main camera sounds like a downgrade from Realme 9, what do you think?

In fact we have a dual 50MP camera on the back and a 16MP selfie camera. However, we have put a lot of effort into optimizing the output of the 50MP main camera and its performance. So we really feel that the results will be no different from what the 108MP camera did on Realme 9. And this has allowed us to deliver a more complete product without increasing the price.

What kind of software support can users expect when they purchase realme 10?

We are committed to providing two major updates for every realme phone. At the same time, we are closely monitoring new policies, which are coming to Europe and could push updates to nearly 5 years. But even if no final decisions have been made, buyers can expect at least two major upgrades when they get Realme 10.

What is, in your opinion, the optimal battery life for a phone? Where do you draw the line when trying to balance phone size and strength?

I see battery life as three separate aspects. One is the battery size, the second is the charging speed and finally there are the software optimizations that ensure the best possible performance. What we have seen is that users normally expect a 5,000mAh battery with a charging stand of 33W and above. For Realme 10, we managed to offer a 5,000mAh battery with a super slim body, the thinnest Realme ever released to the world.

People want their phones to last 8 to 12 hours of even the heaviest multitasking. They are also looking into the time it takes to charge the phone after running out of battery. Realme 10 can easily last a full day even when users play it and recharges to 50% in just 28 minutes; And we do our best to minimize downtime for charging.

With Apple giving up on the mini, can we officially declare the compact phone dead? See the screen size stabilize between 6 and 7 inches as people can’t comfortably hold larger devices?

I will not comment on Apple’s strategy, because they have their consumers and their own strategy. But in general I think people look at a 6-inch screen and beyond on their phones at a minimum.

The reason is, again, heavy users and multi-tasking: it doesn’t matter if you’re using Browsing, gaming, checking email or reading a book (which is becoming more and more popular), you need at least one screen to 6.4-6.5 “to get things right So I think 6” will be the bare minimum for the future, due to the way apps are designed these days.

A few goodbye words?

What we’re trying to do with the Realme 10 series is differentiation at a new price. I wouldn’t say real innovation, because things have already been invented, but what we’re trying to do is bring that innovation to prices where people haven’t been able to appreciate it before.

The 10 series this time will bring three groundbreaking innovations for our users: performance, display and design. Realme 10 will be a performance-focused variant and stay tuned for the other two models
