Earlier this year, Team Ninja announced Ninja Gaiden: Master Collection for current consoles. However, some titles were noticeably missing from the package, with the developer now explaining that this is due to some of the code being permanently lost.

Speaking in an interview with Famitsu, which was translated on SiliconEra, Team Ninja brand manager Fumihiko Yasuda explained that the data was unrecoverable. This meant that the studio simply couldn’t include those games without significant work to restore the missing code.

“As for Ninja Gaiden Black and the original Ninja Gaiden 2, only pieces of their original data were still intact and we couldn’t even get them back. This is also the reason why we chose Sigma ”.

Ninja Gaiden: Master Collection will include Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 and Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge. Yasuda later stated that Team Ninja still considers the Sigma editions of the first two games to be the final versions of each game.

The title will launch on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X / S and Nintendo Switch in June.
