Huawei has issued a court notice regarding the infringement of its patent rights. The complaint is against Amazon and e-ink display manufacturer Compal Electronics, as well as several of their subsidiaries.

It is very likely that the claim relates to patents related to the Kindle, a product that Amazon has revealed will be withdrawn from China by the end of the first half of 2023.

The actual counterfeit patents were not detailed as official documents have yet to be published by the Suzhou People’s Court in Jiangsu Province. The trial will begin with hearings on 8 December.

Huawei has reportedly sold over 110,000 units of its MatePad Paper e-ink tablet that comes with Harmony OS 2.0. In the first two months after launching in late February, the unique Huawei tablet managed to outperform Kindle sales in China, the source says.

Huawei is among the world leaders in granted patents. It has over 110,000 valid patents and is the leader of CNIPA and EUIPO, the IP regulators in China and the EU respectively. It is also the fifth for patents granted in the United States, a country where doing business is not allowed.
