The first trailer of the new Mortal combat the film gives us a solid taste of the characters and action we can expect to see in the film. And based on the trailer, fans of the franchise should be very excited about this upcoming movie!
Even if you haven’t played Mortal Kombat in a long time, you will recognize most of these characters. We see Sonya talking about a meeting with Sub-Zero that left Jax unarmed. And we find that Sonya is now trying to protect a man named Cole Young (played by Lewis Tan) who is being hunted by Sub-Zero.
As for Cole, he is a disgraced MMA fighter. But now he has a mysterious dragon mark on his body that serves as an invitation to compete in the Mortal Kombat tournament.
While this is our skeletal storyline, the trailer is primarily concerned with showing the action. We see Sub-Zero taking sides against multiple opponents, including a battle with the Scorpio towards the end. Along the way, we see a lot of blood and casualties as Sub-Zero uses his cryomancy skills to take out his enemies and Liu Kang channels his inner dragon towards bloody results.
Look closely and you’ll see glimpses of other fan favorite characters like Raiden, Liu Kang, Kung Lao, Mileena, and even Goro! We also see Kano take on the mysterious Lizard.
Mortal Kombat is directed by Simon McQuoid and will be released in theaters on April 16. The film will also premiere the same day on HBO Max for a period of 31 days. Only then will fans be able to determine if this film is better than the 1995 original Mortal combat (a film that some say is the best video game adaptation ever made).
