introduction
What are the requirements for a new model to be an update on the previous one in the series? Normally, a chipset upgrade is in that list, maybe some improvements in the camera department, some changes in the display, a bigger battery or faster charging – something like that. Well, the Huawei nova 11 Pro doesn’t seem to carry any of these, so is there anything that makes it better than the nova 10 Pro?

Well, the back design is different, for example. Huawei has toned down the rather gaudy style of the previous generation’s camera island and introduced two colorways with faux leather back panels and an engraved “nova” pattern.
And, since we already know a few things about the phone, we’ll pour some tea. Just because the charging specs are the same doesn’t necessarily mean the results are the same – we got some pretty impressive numbers.
The nova 11 Pro might do just the bare minimum to earn the right to boost the model name, but the 10 Pro already had some solid specs, so perhaps it’s not fair to dismiss the 11 so easily. For example, the rather unique front camera system including a 60MP ultrawide unit and a 50mm equivalent zoom camera has been carried over and can be just the right selling point for a selfie-crazed crowd.
Out back, the 2MP depth sensor that was scrapped is unlikely to be missing, but the now-introduced laser AF should help in the dark and with close-ups. And close-ups are where the otherwise modest ultrawide resolution (8MP) fares better than most, thanks to its AF capability. The 50MP main camera proved to be a strong performer on the older model too, so we’re not complaining it’s returning, mostly unchanged.
It’s kind of a similar story in other areas. The sleek 6.78-inch double-curved display had both the pixels and hertz so it didn’t need an immediate upgrade. The Snapdragon 778G chip may not be cutting edge, but it remains a solid contender in the midrange space as well. And with a generous 256GB base storage version (128GB on nova 10 Pro) and a 512GB option, you won’t be memory hungry either.

Huawei nova 11 Pro unboxing
The nova 11 Pro ships in a classic white box with the logos and model names painted in a reflective rainbow finish. There’s also a Kunlun Glass logo front and center, denoting Huawei’s use of its own brand of display protection.

Inside, in addition to the phone, you’ll find the same 100W charger from before that brought us some surprises this time, along with a 6A USB-AC cable. Also included is a protective soft silicone case that covers the sides and back without obstructing your view of the nova patterned back.
