Last year we tested an Infinix concept phone with a 160W fast charging system. Since then the company has continued to work on battery technology and pushed the charging speed even higher. Here is a short video teaser released by CEO Benjamin Jiang.

Infinix calls this new system “Thunder Charge,” and according to the label on the screen, it has a peak power of 180 W. The clip only lasts about 10 seconds, but the battery gauge goes up by almost a full percentage point.

So how fast is Thunder Charge? We do not know yet. The goal of last year’s 160W system was to fully charge a 4,000mAh battery in just 10 minutes. Although the company has not yet released a retail device with a 160W charge, it has launched the Infinix Note 12 VIP with a 120W charge. It has a slightly larger battery capacity, 4,500mAh, and the official time for one charge of the 0-100% is 17 minutes (we have a hands-on review of the 12 VIPs if you’re interested).

The 2021 concept phone was not just about charging, it also had a color-changing film on the back and an electroluminescent film that could be used for notifications. There may be more to this new device too, so stay tuned for more updates.
