As we get closer and closer to the big unveiling event on February 1st, more and more details about Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S23 devices are leaking every day and sometimes even several times a day. This isn’t great news, however.

According to a new report, based on pricing information for Australia, this year’s Samsung flagships will be more expensive than last year’s. In Australia, the price increase is AUD 100 for each model and each variation of each model. Now, AUD 100 currently translates to about $70 US or €65.

Samsung Galaxy S23, S23+ and S23 Ultra are said to have a price hike

For what it’s worth, such direct currency-to-currency and region-to-region “translations” rarely work, not to mention that phone makers like to raise prices in rounded increments of 50 or, more commonly, 100. So this could change be an increase of $100 and €100 in the US and Europe. On the other hand, it might just be $50 and €50, but the point is that there are now rumors of a price increase, regardless of the exact amount.

On the other hand, Samsung is also said to be doubling the amount of storage for its entry level models, from 128GB to 256GB. Today’s rumor clearly mentions a 128GB variant, which is confusing – will this be a regional thing, in which case Australia will get it and other places won’t?

If some places are going to get a 256GB base model, and that’s $100 or €100 up from last year’s entry-level model, then that might not even technically be a price bump, since you’ve always paid more. for more storage space. It’s just that you’ll be forced to buy the 256GB version even when 128GB might be fine for your use case.

Of course, this is all speculation, based on an unconfirmed rumor no less, so don’t take it too much to heart. We’re only two weeks away from getting the official news straight from the horse’s mouth, so stay tuned for that.
