    1.) Download and install the app and open it.
    The core system will install.

    2.) Activate the Termux-Android bridge by entering

    3.) Download the Setup script and Data archive
    The new setup now includes testing for required files, and ability to rapidly resume in the event of a crash/aborted install.

    4.) Install the OS.
    Due to Microsoft shutting down GitHub repositories or putting so much security on the server as to make it worthless, as well as developers frustrated with the drastic changes, many archives/tools are vanishing.
    I therefore took several day's gathering up what I could and put it into my own archive, TP5. This 2GB of files, along with the usual Debian repositories will install the tools needed for modding and more.

    NOTE: TP5.zip and setup.sh must be in your Android Download folder.

    5.) Install time will vary. For me, a 1MB download rate took about 3 hours. I have made the Setup as automatic as possible, however, there are several times when user input is required to continue.

    Only the most minimal CLI version of Ubuntu v26 is included.
    A full XFCE is included and requires VNC app to act as a monitor.
    Kali has dropped support for Termux and has been doing so for some time now.

My apology for the delay.
This update was far more challenging than expected.

I have been working to fix the Setup and broken features.
A lot worse than I imagined.

Minor issues aside,
Termux core now uses Python v3.13 plus patch v3.14. Python v3.12 is no longer supported. Unfortunately, given Termux was stuck at 3.12 for a decade, 99% of all app's are v3.12 and many break under 3.13+
A major issue that got past me is YAML being updated. The core developers are pushing for closer Debian likeness, which is good, however, it has broken many things.
For example, for a decade Termux YAML has stored Shared Objects in the current Python build
/usr/local/lib/python3.12/dist-packages/usr/lib/
Now, in keeping with Debian, it is/usr/local/lib/
When building a PIP and YAML calls on /usr/local/lib/libyara.so, it is missing.
So why did it work for me?
I did mine as an update and the files were present.
After deleting 22GB of very stable Termux and doing a clean install, yikers!
RKPairip, APKid, any tool requiring a local build fails.
Too, PIP now includes Yara-Dex and Yara, so when YAML reports YARA is missing and you pip install Yara, it corrupts the code as yara-dex is what's required.

The XCFE desktop GUI is another issue.
Many developers are pissed at Microsoft over locking out repositories as BOTs and at the core devs for breaking a decade of what worked, they have closed their repository.

I used code from the JesusChapman repository. He closed it 2 weeks ago.
Worse, while still mirrored, he relied upon code from GitHub - JesusChapman/termux-desktop-xfce: Set up a beautiful xfce desktop in termux which no longer exists!
This is the downside of repositories.

And because I have now uninstalled my working copy...

I also made another critical discovery.
In trying to preserve Termux repositories, I backed up nonstandard bins.
However, it turns out a large portion were in a dot folder and ignored.

With the exception of the desktop missing files, everything else is fixed.

Throw in one more twist, PGP as of last months moved it's keyring location.

I do believe I have the kinks worked out.

So as to preserve the Termux GUI in light of closing repositories, I have archived most of the apps, all of the 3rd party apps, and my Install_XFCE4_Desktop.sh
For those who already have a CLI build of Termux who just want to add a GUI, this archive works as a standalone installer.

Download to Android Download folder.

Installing any sort of GUI Linux system on Android is extremely difficult for several reasons. Operating systems such as Ubuntu have done away with the APT and Debian package installers, having replaced them with SNAP

Snap uses a security protocol that Termux does not permit as it violates the Android operating system security. This means that when you install the operating system you can't install any packages. In addition, attempts have always been plagued in trying to get internet connectivity to go through SSH and to get the audio to work as it has to go through the Linux operating system, through the Termux operating system, and finally to the Android operating system.

I have managed to get around all of this. I have reinstalled the Debian package system. I have reconfigured the SSH configuration to allow for higher ports than standard. I have after a great many attempts even gotten the audio to work. In order to accomplish this a slightly older version of Ubuntu must be used. This is due to the newer versions absolutely demanding SNAP as the installer. I have also managed to install a number of packages using Java.

Another issue is that Ubuntu under Termux uses the XFCE interface rather than the common Gnome interface. As a result a number of things such as the docker will not launch. For this I have found alternative packages that will perform the same function, in this case, Plank.

Another challenge has been the repositories as they are now carrying either SNAP or Flatpak installation packages and no longer.deb. Fortunately, there are plenty of people in the world who are still demanding the.deb packages and have created several unofficial repositories. I have added those repositories and pushed their priority above the default Ubuntu repositories. This allows for installing Debian packages without the operating system automatically (and without your control) switching them to a SNAP. As Synaptics and several other Stores common to Ubuntu no longer work and the ones that remain which do continue to work are now for SNAP while they are part of the operating system and installed they will provide no functionality whatsoever. To get around this I have installed the command line version of Flatpak which is compatible with SNAP but has no GUI. I have also installed a GUI version of Debian package installer. This means you can download any.deb package compatible with Debian or Ubuntu and without having to use the command line interface you can install these packages right from the desktop.
Unfortunately there is no currently available store that will function under Ubuntu as they are all hard coded to use security protocols that have been added as of 2026 and we're not available previously.

While my Termux Plus version 5 package comes with a command line interface version of Ubuntu 26 (the most recent) it lacks a GUI. To install the GUI version 24 requires the removal of the CLI version 26.

Why install ubuntu? Because it is Debian compatible and Termux is based on Debian. Too, it is commonly used by many people and therefore familiar. Although I provide a fully functional XFCE GUI for Termux it is really more of a bells & whistles interface than a functional operating system as there are no packages available. As it is a fairly small package the XFCE GUI can be run simultaneously with Ubuntu on most modern devices. The third interface is for Windows 10 which I do not start up automatically as it is resource intense and should only be launched manually.

With Ubuntu I have installed the most common apps to save you the headache of making sure that they have installed properly. In addition I've thrown in a few simple games primarily for testing purposes. I have also added several tools and applications specifically suited for Android modding. As with the Termux-to-Android interface, termux-storage, I have created a virtual link between Ubuntu and Android. The result is that Android, Termux and Ubuntu each share the Android download folder.

Installing Ubuntu is no simple task. I am well acquainted with Linux systems and have even built a working ArchOS, however, this is a full blown rooted Debian OS, built atop a sudo Debian Termux, built upon a non-rooted Android OS.
I am using a tablet having 8 processors, 512GB of RAM and 2TB of storage and I average 58fps on Ubuntu. Don't think just because you can get Termux and XFCE running that Ubuntu will play along. Also, Ubuntu requires a v8/64bit device.

Ubuntu is no light weight.
The custom proot is about 1GB, plus the update that adds 2 more gigs.
Then the archive is six 1GB multipart zip ultra compressed.
That multipart zip need to be extracted into its 13GB tarball.
That is 22 GB just to get everything.
The multipart zip can be deleted as only the tarball is required.
Don't forget, this is all going into Termux and your devices primary RAM.
If you do not have a device with at least 32GB of RAM, do not try this.

That said, if you installed my Termux Plus v5 package, and installed my XFCE package successfully, and you believe your device can handle it, you can proceed.

This PDF is for an older setup that no longer works, however, the outline which includes pictures does still apply.
You can review prior to installing.

download these two files.

I recently lost all of my Termux archive while working on Kali. More later.
While reinstalling, I discovered several missing packages.
In order to get them back I needed to track down unofficial repositories.

This script installs alternative repositories for Termux.
Initially I was going to add this to the Setup script, however, it is temperamental.

The VOID repo contains packages removed as unethical or outdated. This includes Python, Perl, Ruby and other tools repackaged into apt installer.

The PACMAN repo has thousands of packages lost for years due to the host letting the PGP keys expire and because of mass leeching.

The GLIB repo contains C compiler code. The repo became outdated and while unofficially updated, it is no longer accepted in the official repo.

The CLAUDE repo has some media related apps not widely used.

Some servers can be hard to reach and you may need to abort and restart several times.

Before you can proceed you must disable an alias.

Look for Pacman and add # at the start.
Like so.

Press CTRL X Y [enter] to save and exit.

Restart Termux.
The reason for this is that the Pacman toy script conflicts with the PACkage MANager, pacman.

One of Termux most powerful CLI editors, combining Nano, VIM and more plus with plugins, it also one of the worst to install due to the fact each plugin is stored in a separate GitHub repository.
Many repositories are now closed, some devs have dropped GitHub, and Microsoft's new anti Bot is killing connections.
It is one of the places where the Setup often hangs.
At long last I have located, obtained, and created my own repository.
If the Setup hangs during installing a micro plugin, you can edit setup.sh and replace the code section.

Kali and how I lost 22GB of Termux.

As is clear from the above, I have been very successful at getting Termux, XFCE and Ubuntu GUI to work.
What lacked is Kai and I set out to resolve it, not realizing it would cost me half a month of work.
In my efforts, I ran into a block and rolled an Install package back, only to lose everything!
What went wrong would take me down a path I've been on before - megalomaniacal corporations hell bent on control, such as when Microsoft sued the makes of BeOS for making a smaller, faster, stabler, and most important FREE operating system to replace Windows.
Google is now doing the same with Android, only they can't go after Linux developers so instead they deliberately crippled Android to prevent Linux from running. Sabotage of your device all for your safety.

The latest iteration of the Android has brought a slew of noteworthy goodies to the fore, with the likes of Partial Screen Sharing, Notification Cooldown, Lockscreen widgets, Battery Health percentage, App Archive, revamped Bluetooth menu, Private Space, the ability to save App Pair, and Privacy Sandbox managing to grab the attention of the masses.

However, as has been the case with the Chinese OEMs, especially the ones associated with BBK Electronics, they have further upped the ante by implementing unnecessary security and privacy restrictions. Don’t get me wrong, having a secure and private environment is the need of the hour but that only makes sense when it is implemented within a controlled environment. However, this has never been the case with the likes of OnePlus, Oppo, and Realme, and this time around, things are no different either.

Termux Not Working on Android 15


With the latest Android 15 update, OnePlus, Oppo, and Realme have started killing processes running under proot on older Android versions, apparently by detecting syscalls. Processes that are linked with these apps, such as the likes of Termux, will get killed on shell startup, or even bootstrap installation’s second stage may fail. They have a special security tool that kills specific processes under proot. Making matters worse, the prompt that shows for proot isn’t shown currently when the process gets killed.

I have managed to circumvent this by adding the rootfs and bootstrap as a Shared Object that installs without being processed by the Android OS Trojan destroyer.

It is not however perfect as even proot syscalls are monitored and killed.
This is why XFCE still works in Termux native but all other OS no longer work in newer devices with 15 up.
Using a custom Ubuntu rootfs I am able to add a single hybrid proot/chroot OS without Android knowing.
This we know as seen from my above releases.
So, where did it go all wrong?
I attempted to repeat the process with Kali, and it in part worked, however, instead of creating individual containers for each OS, the chroot becomes a global share, meaning that part of Kali overwrote Ubuntu and XFCE.
So, when I rolled back Kali, it rolled back every OS.
Painful lesson but at least YOU don't have to experience it.

As it is only the higher level GUI desktop that uses the syscalls Android now kills, I have come to a compromise.
What I have managed is Kali Nethunter, full OS and tool's in a CLI format.
While not so fancy as a GUI desktop, the majority of Kali tools are CLI anyhow.
It is a compromise, but it allows for Termux/XFCE, Ubuntu and Kali on new devices despite Googles best efforts to sabotage Free and Open Source Software.

So, I simply reinstall Termux, add XFCE, install Ubuntu into proot, and install Kali into chroot... nope.
I had to locate new repositories in order to install Termux.
From there, everything went well up to Kali.
Avoiding any GUI desktop, a clean install still crashes.

It turns out that with Google cr@pping all over Termux Kali dropped and removed its Termux rootfs and the current one includes a hard coded root only postsql that is incompatible with Termux.
Fortunately the tool isn't needed and can be removed.
So, mid install it crashes and the OS package list must be edited to remove postsql, and then reloaded and resumed.

Once done, you will have a full Kali with Nethunter CLI working on Termux, alongside Ubuntu, XFCE and Termux.

The attached archive contains the scripts to install and fix Kali.

Do NOT download into Termux home folder!

This will copy files to your Android Download folder that will be needed to later within Kali.

After setup completes, enter kali or nethunter to start the OS.
From within Kali, NOT TERMUX, do :

cp /sdcard/Download/.bashrc
Run the upgrade and update : (PW = kali )

At some point the upgrade will fail due to postsql issues.

Run :

chmod +x *.sh
~/FixKaliInstall.sh
This will patch the OS, remove the problem, and resume the upgrade.
Once finished, exit Kali and restart it.

If all went well, you will have Termux, Termux XFCE4 Desktop, Ubuntu CLI and Desktop and Kali CLI.

If you find that a package has done a forced Python 3.14 full upgrade and crippled Python 3.13 packages, it is a simple fix.

Frustrated with Turmux being reduced down to just a few official working repositories?

Firefox in XFCE desktop.

I strongly recommend using a dedicated device and a freshly installed Termux.

To make this work, 2 packages are required and a 3rd needs consideration.
I have taken care of the first 2.
The first is SearXNG, the search engine.
The second is a dDNS. I have compiled ddns-go and included the binary.
The third is an NAT or full DNS with Tunnel and this will decide if you use the search engine only from Termux or everywhere.

Download the SearXNG archive into the Android Download folder.

Install Termux and run it.
Enable the bridge

You should get an output like this.

You will need to generate an encrypted security key.
Change your_email@domain.com to yours before executing.
You will be prompted for a folder and password.
Just press enter three times, no password required.

You can start the search engine at this point.

At this point the search engine is only going to work on the localhost or from within Termux. Android nor anything else can see it.
If this is how you want it, then you can install the W3C CLI browser, or the XFCE desktop (explained above) and use this address:


If you want the search engine global, more work has to be done.
You need a DNS provider with NAT or CGNAT support in order to connect the internet to Android and Android to Termux in a Tunnel.
Many providers exist, most of the decent ones are pay and will run about $10USD/yr. Most of the free ones are Chinese military owned and defeat the whole point of privacy.

Search Google (the irony) for CGNAT tunnel. Cloudflare, GoDaddy and others exist.
I strongly advise Pinggy.
What is important is that the tunnel connects to port 8888.

For hardcore devs, NGNIX Reverse Proxy can also be used, however, it is a very difficult tool to set up and manage.

Once you have a DNS with Tunnel, the rest is simple.
Run the dDNS that connects Termux to Android and reverses the Proxy.
Set the name before executing.

Next, run the Tunnel client.
In this example, using Pinggy.

Now, anyone going to MYDOMAINNAME.COM will get forwarded to your Android device, onto Termux, and onto the search engine.

A word of caution. Don't go sharing your server address as your device, phone service or network, could take a beating from millions of people looking for secure search engines.

Finally, I added the 3 launch commands to the startup of Termux using

I just wonder, does this still rely on an external server when you make a search, or is it completely self-hosted? I mean, results are stored elsewhere and not populated in real-time, right? As it would be impossible I guess, without scraping the net first.

I gave it a go on one of the official search engines available, and results aren't sadly matching the search query, like in this case:

where, instead of showing me mod apk - related searches, it shows websites with such keywords. I guess it depends on how it's configured.

It has its own core engine that uses about 4GB of storage for the most common keywords and phrases. Beyond that, as with any search engine, it can be configured to scrape any other search engine or crawl the web.
Time out value can be set along with page depth.
Data is destroyed after displayed to reduce size and tracking.
It can be set to private (default) or shared with other engines.
The configuration I provide is for private personal use.
A search engine for modders/hackers that fits in pocket and has no big brother watching over you.
Even data scraped from the big engines can be sanitized and routed through VPN/proxy/Onion/etc.
